Spice Cake, Fig, Goat & Cream Cheese Icing, Honey Drizzle • YUM! • First Recipe Test

Last night we had our first recipe test! Such a success! Alex is a dream in the kitchen with her awesome baking skills. Our first flavor combination was a spice cake with half of a fig baked into the center, goat and cream cheese icing, topped with a roasted fig drizzled with honey and butter. The cake was spiced with cinnamon, cloves, cardamom seeds and grated nutmeg. The cinnamon we purchased already ground. We grated the nutmeg on a micro plane and the cardamom & cloves were toasted until fragrant on the stove and then ground with a mortar and pestle. The kitchen smelled absolutely divine! Divine I say! If you can believe it, the cupcakes tasted even better than they sound. Enjoy some photos from our baking process to finished cupcake!
 Fresh figs.
This was a test shot, but I like it. Babe in action!
The figs rose beautifully to the top of the spice cakes during the baking process.
Roasted figs hot out of the oven! Look at all of that honey and butter melty goodness.
The first ever cupcake from Babes with the Goods!
Jess tried a variety of techniques for decorating, which is your favorite?
